Raising the standard for damp and mould in the UK
The Federation of Damp was established with a clear purpose: to raise standards in the understanding, diagnosis and management of damp and mould across the UK housing sector. What began as a response to widespread inconsistency in damp diagnosis has grown into a structured framework for training, certification and sector-wide improvement.

Why the Federation of Damp was created
Damp and mould are too often misdiagnosed, oversimplified or treated incorrectly. The industry lacked a consistent benchmark for training and professional recognition.
Unnecessary remedial work
Ongoing property damage
Increased complaints
Loss of trust
Risk for landlords and housing providers
The Federation of Damp was created to provide that benchmark, focused not just on delivering courses, but on improving competence, accountability and long-term professional standards.
Three ways we raise standards
Training & certification
Structured damp, mould and waterproofing training built to develop real diagnostic confidence, with certification pathways that demonstrate competence and commitment to higher standards.
Our FODCS damp surveyor and FODCT technician certifications are independently City & Guilds Assured and CPD certified.

One method, applied consistently
At the heart of everything we do is the FOD 7-Step Survey Method, an evidence-based process every certified member is trained to follow, so damp is diagnosed on evidence rather than assumption.

Working with the organisations that need it most
We have delivered training and worked with councils, housing providers and contractors across the UK, including:
Clarity, structure and confidence
Raising standards is not achieved through one-off courses. It takes a collective commitment to better practice, whoever you are.
Contractors
Developing your expertise and proving it to clients.
Surveyors
Seeking structured, recognised certification.
Housing providers
Strengthening internal capability and compliance.
Homeowners
Seeking reassurance and a verified specialist.
Damp and mould, treated with proper rigour
Our long-term vision is to see damp and mould management treated with the same level of professional respect and technical rigour as other building disciplines. By supporting professionals, organisations and homeowners alike, the Federation of Damp aims to contribute to improved housing conditions and higher standards of practice across the UK.
