Raising the standard for damp, mould and waterproofing
We exist to protect homeowners, landlords and housing providers from poor diagnosis, misinformation and costly repeat repairs, by setting a clear standard and certifying only professionals who meet it.
To raise the standard of damp, mould and waterproofing across the UK by certifying only qualified, ethical and reliable professionals, and giving the public a trusted way to find them.
Damp is too often misdiagnosed and mistreated
Condensation gets treated as rising damp. External defects get missed. The wrong treatment gets sold. Homeowners pay twice, and trust in the whole trade suffers.
The industry needed an independent standard built around correct diagnosis and accountability, not product sales. So we built one, and we hold our members to it.

Our core values
Integrity
We hold the highest ethical standards through every step of vetting and certification.
Excellence
We certify only professionals who meet or exceed recognised industry benchmarks.
Transparency
Our criteria and processes are public, clear and applied consistently.
Accountability
Members are bound to a code of conduct and a formal complaints process.
Public focus
We exist to protect and inform homeowners, landlords and housing providers.
A vetted member versus an unverified contractor
Anyone can call themselves a damp specialist. A Federation of Damp member has proven otherwise.
A Federation of Damp member
- Vetted for competence before being listed
- Public liability insurance checked
- Bound by a published Code of Conduct
- Listed on a public register you can verify
- Backed by a formal complaints process
- Independent advice, not product sales
An unverified contractor
- No independent check of competence
- Insurance not verified
- No agreed code of conduct
- No public listing to check
- No formal route if things go wrong
- May be tied to selling specific products
Trust, built on substance
Independent vetting
Every applicant is checked for competence, valid insurance and business status before being listed. How we vet
Published standards
Our criteria are public and applied consistently, so members know exactly what is expected. The standard
A code of conduct
Members agree to a clear Code of Conduct covering honest assessment and fair dealing. Read the code
A public register
Anyone can verify a member in seconds, giving clients confidence before they book. Find a specialist
Consumer protection
If something goes wrong, there is a formal complaints process behind every listing. Make a complaint
Independent, not product-led
We are not tied to any manufacturer. Our standards are built around correct diagnosis and best practice.

Our own certification courses, the FODCS surveyor and FODCT technician certifications, are independently City & Guilds Assured and CPD certified, so professionals who certify with us earn an externally quality-assured credential, not a self-issued one.
What you get from a certified specialist

Accurate diagnosis
Members are trained to find the real cause, not just treat symptoms, so you avoid misdiagnosis and costly repeat repairs.
Hands-on expertise
Training is built around real-world scenarios, not theory alone, so assessments hold up on site.
Honest, transparent service
A Code of Conduct means fair dealing, clear pricing and assessments you can trust.
Long-term protection
Work carried out to recognised standards and best practice helps stop damp problems coming back.
